        Material
          DescriptionThe instrument is housed in a rectangular box with glass windows on five faces, though which the instrument may be seen. The base of the box is metal with a grid of regularly spaced bored holes. The box is secured to the base with screws. Inside the box is a cylinder designed to hold recording paper and three recording arms which are in contact with the cylinder. Human hair is mounted inside box, held between two mounts.

          A an open, cylindrical container with a wide mouth is mounted on the outside of the box and is designed to collect precipitation.
