The blades rotate within a brass hoop and as they rotate, turn a threaded rod in contact with a thin gear. The hoop, rotating rod and gear assembly are mounted on a self-supporting brass stand. One end of the stand has a moveable joint, which has a circular hole and screw-threaded adjustment knob, perhaps to mount the entire stand on a support rod.
