Material
DescriptionA tall brass stand with two sections, a lower column which is attached via a height-adjusting screw to a telescoping column with a small platform on top with three brass brackets around it. On the latter was fixed a cylindrical piece of lime (calcium oxide, CaO, missing here).
Attached to the lower column by two metal brackets is the mouth of a burner consisting of a vertical tube that first rises vertically and then bends to point its nozzle towards slightly above the stand platform. The burner is fed by two tubes through which passes hydrogen and oxygen (or air) gases. The burning flame on the lime renders the latter incandescent, producing a bright light (up to 200 candles). The position of the burner on the piece of lime is adjusted by a screw and spring mechanism. This lamp is unsigned, but can be attributed to the Duboscq firm.
