DescriptionThis drawing tube attaches horizontally to the vertical tube of the binocular eyepiece head. The other end carries a beam splitter through which one sees the microscope image superimposed on the drawing surface. The image can be attenuated by a polarizer.

Curatorial RemarksAlthough much larger and more complex than a traditional camera lucida, this device is strikingly superior.
FunctionThe drawing tube is similar to a camera lucida insofar as it aids the user to draw a specimen seen under the microscope by superimposing an image of the specimen and the drawing surface in the user's eye.
