DescriptionThis is an assay travel kit consisting of many small implements within three large boxes. There are two smaller boxes that fit within a larger one. The largest box that contains the two smaller ones is a rectangular varnished pine box with a silver lock on the bottom half. The box has a purplish-brown velvet lining on the upper lid with a mint-green tag with printed black font that designates the owner's name (W.F. Lingke).

Within this large outer box, there are two smaller ones that fit inside, which are made of the same varnished pine with purplish-brown velvet lining. One of these smaller boxes does not have a lid, but the other one has a lid and two brass hooks to fasten it shut. Both boxes have grooves imprinted in the velvet that indicate the placement of each instrument.

There are many small, white tags in the containers that designate the function of each instrument with cursive script. The instruments within the box consist of scissors, paper, cupel holder, form for paper cylinders, pliers, cupel moulds, charcoal accessories, a scale for measuring silver buttons, brass mould and stamp for clay crucibles, crucibles, and more.
