DescriptionGalvanometer with simple Ampere-type needle in a fixed coil with about 20 turns of wire and mounted on wood post and round wooden base painted red and black. Compass needle on pivot in center of rectangular front coil with binding post mounted on exterior of coil.

FunctionA galvanometer measures small current displacements. When an electric current is introduced, it induces a magnetic field that causes the coil to rotate in proportion to the current deflections, which can be detected using a scale.
