            DescriptionA horizontal, fan-shaped galvanometer of cast level or type-metal. The narrow end of the case has a brass post containing a string suspension of a very small coil in a round permanent magnet. The edge of the post is knurled and the flat top is marked, "SET - ZERO", with a double headed arrow inscribed on it. Through an arc-shaped display window, the instrument scale is visible, marked 40-0-40. The display has a knife-edge pointer. The top of the case has a round bubble level.

            The instrument case is supported on three legs, two of which are levelling screws. The case has two large binding posts with hard rubber caps.
