DescriptionThe horizontal dial is mounted above a magnetic compass on a square brass plate with a wooden base. The gnomon for the dial is hinged to fold flat onto the chapter ring for storage. The chapter ring is marked IIII-XII-I-VII with 15 minute subdivisions. The gnomon is designed for a latitude of approximately 48°. The compass rose is divided into 16 points with every point marked NORD, NNO, NO, ONO, OST, OSO, SO, SSO, SUD, SSW, SW, WSW, WEST, WNW, NW, and NNW. There are no subdivisions. There is a magnetic declination mark at about 20° west of North.,square,The eight major points of the compass rose are colored pink/red, green, pink/red, and yellow, alternately.
