DescriptionA rectangular metal bar with a sliding sleeve. On one side, the bar is marked in increments of 1-40 (centimeters). The metal sleeve moves along the bar, controlled by a wire attached at each end. The wires are attached to the sleeve by a pair of slot-headed screws. At each end of the bar the wire is attached to a pulley inset into the bar. The sliding sleeve has a vernier scale (1-10).

At one end, a circular adjustment knob with a knurled edge controls the motion of the wire. The other end has a threaded rod with a spring and screw assembly of unknown function.
