DescriptionThis square, silver sundial rests on four squared feet. The dial plate is engraved with floral motifs and a small crowned heraldry in each corner. The dial plate has an adjustable, decoratively shaped plumb-bob opposite the hinge of the equatorial ring with an elongated bob
The compass is silvered and divided into four sections, with an eight-point wind rose in the center. The abbreviations for each cardinal direction are engraved in their corresponding quadrants. There is an arrow for magnetic declination at approximately 20° west. The compass has two needles: one is a silver arrow, the other is a thinner, black arrow that sits on top.
The equatorial ring of this sundial is irregularly shaped and engraved on the top surface with an hour scale. The hour scale is marked with Roman numerals III-XI-IX, with subdivisions every quarter-hour.The sundial's gnomon is a pin mounted to the center of a flat, rotating bar that bridges the 6 o'clock hours.
The latitude arm is marked from 1° to 79° every 10°, and further divided by 5° and 2° increments.
The underside of the compass box is engraved with a decorative urn in the center and the maker’s signature. There is a perpetual calendar and magnetic deviation adjustment as well.
This sundial has a square, green fish skin case.
