FunctionWhen someone stands at the focus point of the parabolic dish, a sound made is reflected outward by the dish in parallel waves, just like for light. If you put a similar dish in the sound waves path, they will be reflected back to the focus point, thus enabling someone else to hear what had been said at the other end.
