DescriptionThis is a Zeiss simple microtome. It is constructed of heavy brass and has a circular top. The top is covered with a glass plate, which is pierced at the center for the passage of the tubular specimen holder. The specimen holder bears on a large micrometer screw fitted to the base. Two thick metal posts connect the circular top to the base.
In use, the bottom screw is turned the desired amount and a straight razor or a microtome knife is run across the glass top to cut the section.
