Material
DescriptionA cylindrical container that opens around its middle section, its two halves secured into place by a strong inverted U-bracket fastened to the sides of the lower section of cylinder, with a screw coming from the top of the U-bracket clamping down the top of the cylinder. There is a small stoppered brass tube extending from one side of the top part of the cylinder, and a second opening closed with a cap that is the top end of a long thin rod extending deep into the container diagonally to screw into an opening that communicates the upper and lower compartments about the center of the containers. The two compartments are otherwise completely sealed from each other.

FunctionThe exact function of this device is unknown. Unlikely to be a Dewar flask but tagged as such. Other possibilities would be a calorimeter (see bomb calorimeters) or some kind of steam generator.
