DescriptionThis Polaroid i-zone digital & instant combo camera is a handheld device combining a Polaroid instant film camera as well as a digital camera attached to each other as a single unit.
Each of the 2 cameras has its own lens, viewfinder, and flashbulb. The 2 cameras are differentiated by color. The instant film camera body is black and dark gray colored plastic, while the digital camera body is white and silver colored plastic. To use the film camera, one holds the unit horizontally. To use the digital camera, one holds the unit vertically.
The camera combo comes with a black fabric hand strap. A computer data cable (a.k.a. "serial cable") is plugged into the unit. There is no film loaded in this unit.
The instructions are printed on the camera in pictographic symbols.
A battery compartment is on the front of the unit to the left of the viewfinder. The battery compartment fits 2 standard AA batteries and its door completely detaches upon opening. There is a fabric ribbon inside the compartment along with metal battery contact components.
A white toggle switch on the side above the battery door selects between digital camera mode and instant film camera mode.
INSTANT FILM CAMERA:
On the front of the film camera is the lens, flashbulb, and front end of the viewfinder. The flash bulb is 1 cm high x 1.8 cm wide. On the back of the film camera, the viewfinder is 1 cm high x 1.2 cm wide. To its left is an LED light indicating when the flash is turned on.
On top is the shutter release button. It is constructed of orange colored plastic. A dial surrounding the button allows choice settings: cloudy, sunny, indoor, and OFF. Except for the word "OFF," the settings are indicated by pictographs.
Instant film can be loaded into the camera by opening it at the base revealing the film compartment. After taking a picture, the photograph can be removed by pulling it out through a slot on the narrow right side of the unit.
DIGITAL CAMERA:
The viewfinder for the digital camera is on the upper back of the vertically held body (which would be the bottom far left side of the film camera held horizontally). It is 1 cm high x 1.2 cm wide. Next to the viewfinder there is a small rectangular screen for a digital display and two LED lights above the display. The display screen is 1.9 cm high x 1.7 cm wide. The left light is a green light indicating the unit is turned on. The light on the right is orange and indicates camera flash mode is turned on.
The flash bulb (1 x 2 cm), lens, and front end of the viewfinder are on the upper front of the unit.
Below the lens on the front is the shutter release button. It is an orange plastic button on the top with a computer icon on it. It is 1.5 cm high x 3 cm wide and is flush with the surface of the camera body except for a horizontal concave curvature dipping slightly beneath the level of the camera body.
A pale green, plastic oval power button is on the very top of the digital unit.
A cable connection port is on the right hand side of the unit. There is a cable plugged in, which connects to the 9 pin serial port of a computer to transfer image data from the digital camera. When the cable is plugged in, it impedes use of the viewfinder for the instant film camera by blocking the head of the viewer from getting close to the viewfinder.

Historical AttributesThe i-zone combo camera stores up to 18 digital images at 640 x 480 resolution, and Polaroid created a companion website (which no longer exists) for users to post their izone photos online (www. izone.polaroid.com). In addition, the i-zone combo was packaged for retail sale in a bundle with ArcSoft's PhotoImpression 2000 photo editing software. Either Polaroid Instant Pocket Film or Instant Pocket Sticker Film, both of which create postage-stamp sized images, could be used with the i-zone combo.
This particular unit came from the Polaroid manufacturing center without retail packaging, and the ArcSoft software is not with the unit.
