DescriptionThis is a mineral molecular model of the crystalline arrangement of sodium chloride (NaCl), made of pine wood spheres painted in bright green and yellow hues and held together by brass rods. It is mounted on a wooden base with a shiny black finish that has a paper label glued onto it. The label is lifted at one corner and the other corner is missing.

Historical AttributesThis molecular model is part of a group in the Collection that were made by Harvard students for courses in geology and mineralogy between the early 1950s and the early 1970s. Some of the molecules were simple class assignments, whereas others are more complex and refer to recent publications. They remained in the Geology Department for display and instruction.
