Historical AttributesThese photographs of the spectrum of the solar corona were made by a coronograph carried above the UV absorbing layers of the terrestrial atmosphere by a Black Brandt V sounding rocket.
Two flight experiment were done--on 13 April 1979 and 16 February 1980--and in each case the rocket carried two coronagraphs: one a white-light instrument that measured the intensity and polarizaiton of the electron-scattered white light corona of the Sun; the other, a UV coronagraph measuring the intensity and profile of a component of the H I Lyman-alpha coronal radiation.
