ballistic pendulum

Inventory Number2023-1-0021
ClassificationPendulum
Dimensions15 × 21 × 10.3 cm (5 7/8 × 8 1/4 × 4 1/16 in.)
DescriptionCylindical bob filled with wooden pellets. Used in experiments where a rifle is shot by students through a blast screen (paper) and into one end of the cylinder. Its motion away from the blast impact is then a representation of kinetic energy. Two hooks on top of the cylinder are attached to a bifilar wire system, ensuring the linear movement of the cylinder (and preventing it from rotating).
