DescriptionThese are four sealed glass tubes, all stored together in a shoebox. From top to bottom, these tubes are arranged in size from biggest to smallest:

        1. The first tube is the largest in both length and diameter, with a round, darkish, stained ball at the base, a long, clear, glass shaft, and a bulbous tip with a small point at the end.

        2. The second tube has a clear glass shaft that is approximately the same diameter as the first, but only half as long, with a narrower, thinner tip at the end, which also culminates in a point at the end.

        3. The third tube has a narrow, cylindrical, clear glass shaft with a rounded closed end. The other end is broken.

        4. The final tube is the smallest in length, although the diameter is slightly larger than the third tube. It seems to be slightly bent in the middle, with dark, smoky, pointy tips at each end (small electrodes?)

Curatorial RemarksR. Forsberg #039-042; one tube is broken.
FunctionThese glass tubes may have been used to create different vacuum tube arrangements by placing electrodes and different components inside the tube, then sealed in a vacuum or a rarefied substance (gas, mercury, etc.)

Also possibly filled with gases for spectroscopy.
