FunctionThis instrument is used to generate carbon dioxide by mixing calcium carbonate (marble) with an acid (usually sulphuric or hydrochloric). The marble, mixed with water would be located in the lower vessel. There would be a stopper on the top opening with a dropper filled with acid extending down to the narrow neck (all now missing).
