          DescriptionA metal plate that used to hold a glass thermometer, from which only the bottom holding ring is left. It is marked on what would be the sides of the thermometer with two different scales (Kelvin kilograde and vapor pressure), and has on its left side several metal strips with additional scales that are all hinged from a screw such that they can be placed on top of the original scale. There is a hole on the right side for a similar screw, now missing, that used to hold similar strips on that side that are also missing.

          Listed together with this instrument is a single metal plate for a thermometer with scales on both sides (Kelvin kilograde and Fahrenheit). This one was NOT a multiscale thermometer.

          FunctionThis is what remains of a McAdie multiscale thermometer similar to 1998-1-1265 in brand and style, except for the order of the scales.

          It was designed by Alexander McAdie and includes four of the most important temperature scales as well as two scales for water vapor content at a given temperature, which are needed to estimate the potential rain contained in the air.

          The thermometer was part of a gradual process of adopting McAdie's preferred temperature scale of Kelvin kilogrades to meteorological thermometers, as well as trying to include several measures of water vapor content in the air at a given temperature.

          The collection contains several prototypes of this thermometer linked to the instrument's database entry, including more detailed information on the scales used by McAdie.
