Vermillion Mine1888 - 1911

The Vermillion Mine was discovered by Henry Ranger in 1887, according to the Royal Ontario Nickel Commission Report and Appendix, Toronto, 1917.

According to Elwood S. Moore and Stuart Bruchey in The American Influence in Canadian Mining, The Vermilion Mining Corporation was incorporated in 1888, and was founded predominantly by Ontario and Sudbury men with the involvement of two others from Chicago. They indicate that Vermilion was a small mining company with properties in the Denison and Graham townships of Ontario. They controlled the Vermilion mine that produced gold and platinum. In 1911, the mining corporation was taken over by the Canadian Copper Company (pp. 30 - 31).
