Schäffer & Budenberg1850 - 1945

Founded in 1850 by Bernhard Schäffer, his brother in law Christian Friedrich Budenberg, and master mechanician Franz Primavesi. It specialized in measurement instruments, valves, boilers etc. mostly related to high-pressure uses. By the end of World War II it was one of the largest emplyers in Magdeburg and a major producer of heavy equipment such as armatures.

Under the zone of Soviet occupation, it was converted into a SAG (Soviet-Aktiengesellschaft, Soviet-owned). The GDR government took it over in the 1950s, when it was restructured and merged with other companies to form the "Karl Marx" Armature Works.
