William Bowyer1699-1777
The English printer William Bowyer was born in London in 1699. After studying at St. John's College, Cambridge, he entered his father's firm as a partner.
Bowyer was printer of the votes of the British House of Commons (1729); to the Society of Antiquities (1736); to the Royal Society (1761); and of the rolls of the House of Lords and the journals of the House of Commons (1767).
Bowyer's best-known work was a Greek edition of the New Testament, printed with notes.
Bowyer died in 1777. His apprentice John Nichols took over his business.
