DescriptionThe instrument is part of a nephoscope, an instrument for measuring the altitude, direction and velocity of clouds.
A pair of brass calipers are attached by a screw and knurled knob to one end of a curved plate engraved with two scales. One arm of the caliper can be adjusted along the scale and the other arm moves in tandem. The curved plate is marked in increments from 1 to 60. The other end of the plate has a short tube or pin, attached to the plate by a screw.
