DescriptionAn early radiosonde, likely that known as a "Radio-Meteorograph Type-L," for transmitting atmospheric data. The type consists of a contact dial,an aneroid and a bimetallic thermometer.
Etched on the thin metal dial is a scale of equally spaced radial lines (worn away in this instrument), which is an altimeter. The forty thin lines are bare metal, while the intervals between them are nonconducting material. The aneroid moves a shaft with a fine pen arm, which slides over the dial divisions, closing an electrical circuit when bare metal is contacted, thus transmitting pressure change data.
The barograph is connected to a radio transmitter. A bimetal thermometer is also included.
