DescriptionThis horizontal sundial is made of a rectangular piece of carved solnhofen limestone mounted on three small brass feet. The brass gnomon is formed as an open triangle. A magnetic compass is set into the dial plate at the south position. It has a blued needle. Magnetic declination is marked. The hours are arranged in an oval, and are marked IIII-XII-VIII every 1/2 hour. The lunettes are filled with carvings of flowers.
A coat-of-arms is carved beneath the gnomon. It includes a lion rampant on a shield divided diagonally into dark and light fields. It is surmounted by a crown with two tassels.
There is a motto on the south side: "Mit Hertz u[nd] Mund Lob Gott all Stund." [With heart and mouth, praise God every hour.]
The dial is made for latitude 48° 50'.
