ProvenanceDonated to Harvard University by the French Committee of Public Safety.
Historical AttributesIn year III of the French Republic, the committee of Public Safety, through the agency of M. Mozard, Consul in Boston, presented to Harvard a collection of 189 mineralogical specimens in token, as the letter of transmittal declared, of "the Fraternall sentiments which Unites you to us." It was hoped that a continuing exchange might thus be begun between Harvard and the Agency of Mines of the French Republic. Harvard accepted and exhibited the gift, but the sudden and unexpected overthrow of the Committee of Public Safety prevented any reciprocal exchange.
