Material
DescriptionPaddle-shaped piece of wood with brass plates on sides and body near base of handle. A second, rectangular piece of wood is screwed on top of the first in such a way that a gap remains between the two. In this gap is a thin metal rod with a pointed end, which moves to the left when a pin on the right side of the paddle is depressed.
The face of the top wood piece is printed with a diagonal scale with values ranging from -10 to 35, graduated into sevenths. The back of the bottom wood piece is printed with a second diagonal scale, with values ranging from 6 to 26, graduated into fifteenths. A scale with values descending from 9 to 1 is printed near the top, rounded edge of the face of the bottom wood piece.
The instrument is missing the index that slides up and down the diagonal scale, operating the pin-lever to move the needle over the top scale.
