DescriptionThe horizontal dial and small magnetic compass are on a rectangular brass plate with three leveling screws. The string gnomon and plummet are connected to a hinged support that folds against the plate for storage. The gnomon is designed for a latitude of approximately 40°. The chapter ring is divided into eight regions, seven of which are subdivided into 8ths. The compass rose is divided into four points, rectangular, each marked with the Kanji for the cardinal directions.
