DescriptionIn the style of a Society of Arts Prize student microscopel, this Davidson & Company microscope has a clawfoot base of cast bronze in the style of Crouch. The upright pillars are part of the same casting. The rest of the instrument is yellow brass. The inclining joint is at their top and holds the stage, through the back of which is a cylindrical post. A triangular post rises up out of the cylinder by means of rack and pinion. It carries a horizontal bracket into which is screwed the straight monocular body tube. Fine focus is by means of a precision screw that operates a lever by the objective. The coarse focus is by rack and pinion.
The microscope has a square stage with 2 stage clips. There is a substage collar for inserting diaphragms or a condenser. The cylindrical post below the stage used to carry a mirror on a sliding sleeve. The mirror is missing.
The instrument has 1 ocular marked "2" and one objective in a canister stamped "DIVIDING / 1/4 in."
THere is a wooden case with a handle. Sections are cushioned with dark green wool.
