DescriptionThis instrument consists of a projecting prism and condensing lens at the top, both on a vertically moving arm designed for focusing purposes. The drum rests on a telescoping stand, supported by three leveling screws.

FunctionThis type of instrument was used for the projection of experiments done on a horizontal surface, whether light was polarized or not. For a description in one of Pellin's catalogue, go to the following website. This description mentions a series of accessories that could be used with it.

This particular one, however, was used for showing the propagation of waves in mercury. See an example of this instrument in the Pellin catalogue, here. In that case, it was used with an electromagnetic tuning fork that created the vibrations.
