Curatorial RemarksDX stands for "dynamox", Machlett's name for its rotating target tube. Rotating anode tubes of this sort were pioneered by GE and Marlett beginning in the 1940s.
FunctionThis high vacuum x-ray tube has a rotating anode allowing this unit to withstand much stronger currents as the point of impact of the electrons would be continually shifted, at thousands of RPM. This would allow it to produce radiation of higher energy or intensity for longer periods of time.
