DescriptionSeven tuning fork tonometer set without resonating boxes, held in a small velvet-lined leather box. Designed to be used with the 65-fork tonometer 1998-1-0140a.
Each fork has been stamped with the maker's name on one side and its frequency on the opposite. This subset was made for frequencies ranging from 516 to 540 VD (or vibrations doubles).
As several other acoustical instruments in the collection, this one has an old location number inscribed on an oval paper glued to the base: 21-2-6. There is another old location number stamped on this instrument: 23-16.

FunctionWas used for precise measurements of beats. It was invented by Johann H. Scheibler and it usually came with resonators to amplify the forks' pitches and beats. The resonators were not necessary though.
