DescriptionThe rotating rectangular piece of iron between the pole of the horse-shoe permanent magnet changes the magnetic flux in the stationary coil. The coil itself consists of five turns permanently mounted in the field of the permanent magnet. The wheel turning the iron piece has a handle so it can be rotated by hand. The wheel though is grooved, to act as a pulley, so it can also be mechanically turned by a motor. The whole instrument is mounted on a rectangular wooden base.
