DescriptionA shunt box in a rectangular mahogany base with a cover. It has ventilation holes on all sides. It has a baklite top panel with 8 terminals in a front row labelled for both current and resistance (amps, ohms), and two separate terminals near the back for connecting to a potentiometer.

Signedon metal plate on top panel: LEEDS & NORTHRUP CO./ Philadelphia, Pennsylvania/ Made in U.S.A.
Curatorial RemarksFrom DPW tag: "From Jeff. Labs, Phys 3?" Earliest appearance in catalogs seems to be in 1930 Type K Potentiometer and accessories catalog, and priced at $75.00. Also in 1946 Catalog E, still priced at $75.00. Mentioned in 1948 catalog as well (not priced). Pieces of masking tape included with instrument.
FunctionFor use with L&N 7551 or 7552 (types K1, K2) potentiometer for measuring current. Ranges from 0.075 amps to 7.5 amps with an error of + or - 0.04%. Current = Volt reading on potentiometer divided by Resistance of shunt. Ventilated to avoid overheating.
