Bibliography
DescriptionThis is a very early Leitz compound microscope with a stand III b. It has a blackened u-shaped base with an unusual C-shaped, brass support for the stage. A brass cylindrical post rises off the back of the stage and carries a horizontal brass arm and body tube. The monocular tube for the eyepiece is on a draw tube. Coarse focus is by sliding the draw tube. Fine focus is by means of screw knob located below the post and stage. It raises and lowers the horizontal arm by means of a triangular support that moves within the post.
The square stage is blackened. The two stage clips are missing. The substage mirror is plano-concave and mounted on a swinging arm attached to the C-shaped support for the stage. A cup diaphragm is inserted into the underside of the stage.
No objectives are presently with the instrument. Two oculars are marked I and III.
A mahogany case for storage accompanies this instrument.
