DescriptionThis is a Grunow large student compound microscope. The Y-shaped base and the curved arm are constructed of cast-iron and blackened. The rest of the instrument is brass. The microscope has a long monocular body tube with rack and pinion for the coarse adjustment. The fine focus is by a screw acting though a lever on stage.
A rectangular stage is attached to the lower end of the curved arm. The stage is fitted with a rotated disc diaphragm beneath. There is also a substage double mirror on a swinging arm.
