Material
DescriptionThis instrument consists of a triangular metalic casing through which passes a long rod. At one end of the rod was put the pressure plate (1996-1-0137a). The other end is equipped with a spring, providing resistance to the plate. Inside the casing is a stylus that would inscribe the movement of the rod on a recording paper set on a rotating tube.

Curatorial RemarksAlso known as BH 114. Used with Inv. BH 134 (1996-1-0137a).
FunctionA pressure plate anemometer measures wind speed in terms of the drag which the wind exerts on a solid body. (It is also known as plate anemometer.) This device (with its plate, 1996-1-0137a) was set into the wind and the wind pressure would push and pull a small stylus found inside the anemometer. The stylus draws a line on a specially calibrated paper put on a revolving tube. The pressure numbers recorded on the paper would then be converted into wind speed.
ProvenanceFrom the Blue Hill Meteorological Observatory.
