          Description1016e is a Tolles objective for side illumination. It has a little window in the side of the objective and a small prism behind this. There is a correction collar. The mount is threaded.

          The objective is dated 69 x 2 x 25, standing for February 25, 1869. It is also scratched "S. H. S."

          The canister is marked 1/4 and its bottom is scratched "S. H. S."

          A note in the canister is signed by C. A. C. (likely Clarence Alonzo Cheever), 1932. Another note is by Ebenezer Gay.

          Historical AttributesThe Tolles notebook (p. 21) describes a No. 2 side illuminator made for Mr. Twitchell on September 24, 1869. Since this one is dated February 23, 1867, perhaps it is No. 1.
