DescriptionThis is a chromolithograph print of screws with square and triangular screw threads on the left and right. To designate the differences in shape between the two screws at the sides of the print, there is a square behind the silver screw with a square screw thread and a rectangle behind the gold screw with a rectangular screw thread, and a diagrammatic picture of the bases of each screw below. There is also a centrally-placed screw jack.
This print is part of a series by E. Wormser, published by Librarie de l'Hachette under the direction of Arthur Jules Morin. Morin, a professor of mechanics at Metz and director of the Conservatoire des Arts & Métiers at Paris, designed these prints to teach the general public about mechanical engineering, as witnessed by the simplicity of the design and clarity of the labels. This print comes from the print series entitled 'Grands dessins colories pour l'enseignement de la mecanique / composes sous la direction de M. le General Morin ... et par les soins de M Tresca', by Arthur Jules Morin (1795-1880), published in Paris in 1856. This was print number 11 in a series of 30 plates sold together in a portfolio, which could also be bought either as a series or separately.
