DescriptionLarge paper star chart, printed in black and white, originally published by the Hydrographic Office of the US Navy in Dec 1908. This version was printed in November 1939.
The chart is labeled, "WORLD STAR CHART," and has a printed seal with eagle and shield in the upper left corner inscribed, "Hydrogographic Office / Of the United States Navy."
Centered at the bottom, "Published at the Hydrographic Office Washington, D.C. , Dec. 1908 / Under the Authority of the SECRETARY OF THE NAVY," "New Publication 6th Edition Nov. 1939"
The chart is labeled with a direction on each side, "NORTH / WEST / SOUTH / EAST"; on the top right is the label, "RIGHT ASCENSION OR SIDERAL TIME." Along the right side is a scale marked in degrees from 0 - 90, labeled at either end of the scale, "ALTITUDE / ZENITH" and "HORIZON." Above this is a table labeled, "Table 2 / Stars / R.A. / Dec."
On the lower left hand corner is a box labeled, "INSTRUCTIONS." The chart has a border labeled with degrees on the right and left sides and hours and minutes along the top and bottom. Along the bottom left is a key to interpreting star markings labeled, "Scale of Magnitudes 1st 2nd 3rd 4th 5th."
