DescriptionThis is a mineral molecular model representing berlinite made of multicolored spheres connected to brass rods and formerly glued to a wooden base made of plywood and stained a dark reddish color. The model is currently loose and no longer glued to the base, however.

The colors on the spheres represent the following elements:

            Aluminum (Al)= red

            Phosphorous (P)= light blue

            Oxygen (OI and OII)= white
Signedon paper label: CRYSTAL STRUCTURE OF BERLINITE / (typed information about this substance on label) /Constructor: Chin-pao Huang/ Date: May, 1968
Curatorial RemarksThe model is no longer glued to the base.

Historical AttributesThis molecular model is part of a group in the Collection that were made by Harvard students for courses in geology and mineralogy between the early 1950s and the early 1970s. Some of the molecules were simple class assignments, whereas others are more complex and refer to recent publications. They remained in the Geology Department for display and instruction.
