DescriptionSilver octagonal dial plate with compass at one end. Three hour scales for latitudes 42, 45, and 49 degrees are numbered in Arabic, Arabic, and Roman numerals. Inner two hour scales do not have quarter hour divisions. Bird gnomon for latitudes 40 to 55.
Wind rose. "NORT, EST, SVD, OVEST" mark cardinal points. Four divisions are provided. An engraved line spanning the diameter of the wind rose marks the magnetic declination west of north.
The reverse side of the dial plate is engraved with the names and latitudes (in degrees) of 22 European towns. The back of the compass bowl is decorated with engraving of buildings
Octagonal shagreen case lined with red velvet with 1 hinge and 1 button clasp.
