DescriptionClear plastic rule with 5 horizontal cardboard slides, each with separate scales. in paper sheath.
On one side, the five corresponding lines are marked A-E, while on the opposite side they are marked 1-5.
A(bottom): Re, Effective Range, -NM. logarithmic scale 1-1000. This is a fixed scale on the plastic frame.
B(top): V, Closing velocity, ft/sec. logarithmic scale 20-10.000
B(bottom): Tf, Frame Time, seconds. inverse logarithmic scale, 100-0.05
C(top): Operator Factor. Inverse logarithmic scale 1.0 - 0.05
D(top): [Rho], Range Correction Factor. logarithmic scale 0.4-1.6. This is a fixed scale on the plastic frame.
D(bottom): [Rho], Two scales: On the left, Range Correction Factor. logarithmic 0.4 - 1.6; On the right, Single Look Probability %. inverse logarithmic 100-0. These are fixed scales on the plastic frame.
E(top): Detection Range, NM. logarithmic scale, 5-500.
E(bottom): Semi-Active Range, NM. inverse logarithmic scale 100-1. This is a fixed scale on the plastic frame.
top edge: False Alarm Probability. Inverse
1(top): PT, Transmitter Peak Power. Inverse logarithmic scale, 100MW to 1W.
1(bottom): GT, Transmit Antenna Gain, dB. Linear scale 0-50.
2(top): GR Receive Atenna Gain, dB. linear scale 50-0.

Curatorial RemarksAlthough its date and provenance indicates that this rule was owned by C.G. Smith, there was at least one slide rule in his papers too recent to have been owned by him.
FunctionTo calculate different paramenters related to the use of radar depending on variables such as wavelength, transmitting power, antenna specs, as well as distance, speed and size of detected objects etc.
Slide rules made by Raytheon were used internally, and also distributed to the outside for promotional purposes.
