BiographyThe Simplex Electrical Company was founded by Charles A. Morss and Oliver Whyte, and was incorporated in 1895 in the Boston area. The firm, which manufactured insulated electrical wires and cables, eventually fulfilled a number of government contracts for submarine and telephone cables under its new name, Simplex Wire & Cable Company. A division of the company, the Simplex Electric Heating Company, manufactured heat-generating electric appliances until it was bought out by the Edison Electric Appliance Company in 1917. The Simplex Wire & Cable Company was purchased by Tyco International Ltd. in 1974.
