Material
DescriptionThis device consists in a brass casing with a binding post on two opposite sides (like unscrewable handles). In one place along the brass side, there is a circular hole, presumably for letting a wire through. The top of the casing is of glass, frosted around the circumference.
The glass lid and the brass circumference are attached to one another and can be removed to reveal the base. The base is a circle of metal with a short metal pillar on each of two opposite sides. Along the edge are three concentric rims etched into the base. In the center of the circle are three short rectangular planks, standing upright with one of their long sides directly touching the base. (There may be or may have been coils between the planks.) Underneath the planks, in a rectangular space cut away, a long flat metal pointer that points to two points along the circumference at once. On one side there are two tiny binding posts (one of which seems to have lost the disc on top) which restrict the movement range of the pointer. The area between the two posts shows an unmarked scale. On either side of the rectangular space cut away is a long thin cylinder (perhaps a coil?).
