DescriptionThe bench consists of a heavy rail supported by two crosspieces at each end acting as feet. On the rail are six sliding carriers on top of which are height-adjustable brass columns (using the big thumb screw). Each has a different optical accessory for polarization, spectral analysis or microscopy.
From right to left: 1) round platform on top of which is a prism; 2) Nicol prism in cylinder, removable from its supporting brackets; 3) lens encased in black diaphragm; 4) specimen holder in-between two condenser lenses, one of which adjustable horizontally; 5) double lens, one encased in black diaphragm; 6) glass plates analyzer. Other accessories also fit on this bench (see 2020b).

Curatorial RemarksThough unmarked, this optical bench is very similar in design to the one advertised by Ernecke in the catalogue mentioned in the primary sources. In the catalogue it is described as "Grosse optische Bank nach Paalzow, zur objektiven Darstellung der Polarisations-Erscheinungen, Spektral-Analyse und Mikroskopie."
