AccessoriesBlue cardboard box with instructions printed on a circular paper glued to the interior of the lower half. There is also a slip-in brown leather case.
DescriptionThe horizontal dial is mounted together with a small magnetic compass on a thin metal plate with three supporting feet. The gnomon for the dial is made for a latitude of 51° 30' and hinged to fold flat against the dial plate for storage. The chapter ring is marked 5-12-1-7 and VI-XII-I-VIII with 15 minute subdivisions. The markings in Roman Numerals are offset by one hour for Daylight Savings Time... The compass rose is divided into 8 points marked N, NE, E, SE, S. SW, W, and NW with 10° subdivisions. There is a magnetic deviation mark at approximately 15°W.,octagonal,The chapter ring markings for Daylight Savings Time are unusual.
Inscribed"MADE IN ENGLAND" and "TEMPUS FUGIT SUMMER TIME" on the dialplate along with "51 30".
Curatorial RemarksAppraisal by Brieux, 9/24/84: $10. Of the style of Butterfield Dials, but of modern construction and gnomon is not adjustable. Tag marked "Gift of Martha R. Wray Christmas 1935" now missing. (Gillingham bought dials from her London shop.)
