DescriptionA large equinoctial table-type dial with a folding gnomon designed for a latitude of 90° is mounted over a compass. The chapter ring is hinged and engraved with Roman Numerals from IIII to VIII and VIII to IIII with 5' increments. A folding scale calibrated from 90° to 0° and graduated in 1 degree increments is mounted to the baseplate to provide the means to set the chapter ring at the proper inclination for the latitude. The base is leveled by three leveling screws using two liquid filled levels mounted at right angles in the compass. The silvered compass rose has a four-pointed star. The compass is divided into four quadrants with markings at 2° intervals.,circular with three protruding supports for leveling screws,The chapter ring is hinged at East rather than North. The gnomon support forms a cord that is well short of the center (diameter). The left and right halves of the chapter ring are offset to allow for the substantial thickness of the gnomon (0.4 cm square).
