DescriptionFrom Instrument Card: Variable Inductance...A coil of 20 turns (1 1/2" dia. 6" long) of heavy wire rotates with crank, on its axis. A small well is bought to bear against the wire and acts as a variable tap on the coil as it is turned. A fixed larger (3" dia) secondary coil surrounds this. It is mounted on a finished wood base."
Signedunsigned
FunctionThis variable inductance was most likely used as part of a radio tuning circuit. Together with a capacitor and an antenna, one could use it as a signal receiver. Alterning the inductance changes the tuning frequency.
